What is the SAP Business One integration module?
The SAP Business One integration module for OpenMES connects your manufacturing execution layer with SAP Business One (SAP B1) – the ERP platform built for small and midsize manufacturers, distributors, and production companies. The module bridges the gap between SAP B1’s production planning and OpenMES’s real-time shop floor execution, eliminating double data entry and giving planners live visibility into what is actually happening on the floor.
This is a paid module – pricing depends on transaction volume, number of SAP B1 databases, and customization scope. Contact us for a quote.
Why integrate OpenMES with SAP Business One?
SAP Business One handles financials, purchasing, sales, and production planning. It can create production orders and define BOMs. But once a production order reaches the shop floor, SAP B1 has no way to track real-time cycle counts, machine states, operator performance, or inline quality data. Operators typically enter results hours or days after production – if at all.
OpenMES captures every production event at machine speed: cycle times, OEE, scrap counts, downtime reasons, SPC measurements. The SAP B1 integration module pushes these results back into SAP as goods receipts, material consumption postings, and batch records – automatically, in real time, with full traceability.
How the integration works
The module connects to SAP Business One via the Service Layer REST API (SAP B1 10.0 and later, including SAP Business One Cloud). For older on-premise installations, the DI API path is available. All communication uses HTTPS with certificate-based or session-based authentication.
Key data flows
- Production Orders – SAP B1 releases a production order → OpenMES picks it up, schedules it on the shop floor, and tracks execution. On completion, OpenMES posts a goods receipt (finished product) and goods issues (consumed components) back to SAP B1.
- Bills of Materials – BOMs defined in SAP B1 are imported into OpenMES. Revision changes trigger automatic updates so operators always work with the latest specification.
- Inventory Postings – Every material consumption and finished goods output in OpenMES creates the corresponding inventory transaction in SAP B1. Stock levels stay aligned without manual journal entries.
- Batch / Serial Numbers – Batch and serial numbers created during production are synchronized, maintaining end-to-end traceability for audits and recalls.
- Quality Data – Inspection results and non-conformance reports from OpenMES are linked to the corresponding SAP B1 production order, supporting ISO and GMP compliance documentation.
Supported SAP Business One versions
The module supports SAP Business One 10.0 (Service Layer) and SAP Business One Cloud (B1H). SAP B1 9.3 is supported via DI API only. Both HANA and MS SQL Server databases are compatible.
