What is the Epicor Kinetic integration module?
The Epicor Kinetic integration module for OpenMES connects your manufacturing execution system with Epicor Kinetic (formerly Epicor ERP / Epicor 10) – an ERP platform purpose-built for manufacturers. Epicor Kinetic is one of the few ERP systems with deep native manufacturing capabilities (job management, scheduling, quality, advanced material management), making the integration particularly rich in data exchange possibilities.
This is a paid module – pricing depends on Epicor edition, number of sites, and customization. Contact us for a quote.
Why integrate OpenMES with Epicor Kinetic?
Epicor Kinetic provides extensive production management: jobs, operations, scheduling, labor tracking, and quality management. Its MES module (Epicor Advanced MES) adds shop floor visibility. But many Epicor customers – especially those running complex discrete or mixed-mode manufacturing – need edge-level machine connectivity, real-time SPC, and offline-capable operator terminals that go beyond what browser-based Epicor dashboards can deliver.
OpenMES adds that edge execution capability. It connects directly to PLCs, sensors, and machine terminals, capturing production data at the source. The Epicor module then posts labor transactions, material issues, and job completions back to Epicor in real time, so schedulers and managers see accurate, up-to-the-minute job status without waiting for operator data entry.
How the integration works
The module communicates with Epicor Kinetic via its REST API v2 (Epicor Kinetic 2021+ / Cloud). Business Activity Queries (BAQs) can be used for custom data retrieval. Authentication uses Epicor API keys or OAuth 2.0. Both Epicor Kinetic Cloud (SaaS) and on-premise deployments are supported.
Key data flows
- Jobs and Operations – Released jobs with operations, materials, and scheduling data are received by OpenMES. Actual labor, quantities, and completion status are reported back as labor transactions and job completions.
- Material Transactions – Material issues (pulls) and receipts (job output) are posted to Epicor in real time based on actual shop floor consumption and production.
- BOMs / Methods – Part methods (BOMs with operations) are imported into OpenMES. Engineering change orders trigger automatic updates.
- Lot / Serial – Lot and serial numbers generated or consumed during production are synchronized for full traceability.
- Quality / NCRs – Inspection results and non-conformance reports from OpenMES create quality records in Epicor’s Quality Management module.
Supported versions
The module supports Epicor Kinetic 2022.1+ (Cloud and on-premise) and Epicor Kinetic Cloud (SaaS). Epicor ERP 10.2.x is supported via REST API v1 with limited functionality. Earlier versions (Epicor 9, Vantage) are not supported.
